Third Space’s upcoming rental community in Kitsilano, located at West 4th Avenue and Macdonald Street, Fourth + Mac, achieved a reduction in embodied carbon emissions by optimizing structural elements, such as decreasing parkade slab thickness with column capitals, and thinning the level two transfer slab.
These design changes not only lowered carbon emissions but also resulted in cost savings, demonstrating that sustainable building practices can be both environmentally and economically beneficial.
These wins were made possible by Third Space’s net zero strategy, which includes performing Life Cycle Analyses (LCAs) at various stages of all new projects to identify embodied carbon reduction opportunities.
